Manly United | Chasing Club Championship
WITH one round remaining before the semi-finals, the majority of the focus for Manly United has been winning this Sunday come 3pm in the men’s game versus Blacktown City FC.
What many people don’t know is, the club is poised to win the club championship ahead of the games in the 18s, 20s and first grade.
When you consider the hefty budgets of some rival clubs as well as the talent pool of football in western Sydney, it is a staggering achievement.
As is stands, Manly are locked on 275 club championship points, equal with former National Soccer League giants Sydney United 58 FC.
Blacktown City FC aren’t far away, accumulating 269 points.
Manly United general manager Jeremy Toivonen declared he was ‘blown away’ when confronted with the impressive combined statistics from the 2016 season.
“The club hasn’t been in this position in my tenure so it is really something special,” he said.
“The significance of this achievement is certainly credit to Paul (Dee) and his coaching staff and of course the players.
“They have worked tirelessly this season and their success is a true reflection of that.
“The club is very proud of what the boys have achieved already this season and wishes them all the best for this weekend.”
With the girls’ first grade also at home on Saturday in an elimination clash against Macarthur from 3.45pm, Cromer Park is the place to be.
See you in the Lucas Neill Grandstand.
