Macallister: “We have the squad to go all the way”
Dylan Macallister can see the funny side of the situation.
After one and a half seasons with Rockdale, the 35-year-old jumped ship late last year, agreeing to terms with Manly United for 2017.
Now Macallister has the opportunity to end the Suns’ campaign this Saturday night at Cromer Park.
“Football tends to sometimes throw up scenarios like this,” he said.
“It was a big decision to leave Rockdale, but Manly are a club on the rise and it also happens to be closer to home.
“I firmly believe we have the squad to go all the way, that’s my focus.”
Macallister won a NSL competition with Sydney Olympic in 2001 aged just 19.
He recalls those days fondly, and has told his current teammates the importance of delivering on the big stage.
“It is a fairly young squad at Manly, but you never know what will happen in the future,” he said.
“The boys are fairly relaxed, but I’ve drummed home how you need to be at the peak of your performance.”
In further good news for United, the journeyman, who played in the A-League, Asia and Europe in a remarkable professional career, intends on having a run in 2018.
“I’ve got to listen to my body, but so far, so good,” he said.
“I’m enjoying my football with a great bunch of guys.
“Hopefully we can go on and win our next two games – grand final wins are always special at any level.”
