Manly United were forced to settle for a share of the spoils on Sunday afternoon despite a dominant performance against the NWS Koalas.
With Koalas content to sit back and soak up the pressure, Chris Williams’ side amounted attack after attack but somehow did not find the back of the net resulting in a frustrating 0-0 draw.
Most notably, they struck the woodwork on three separate occasions.
On the half hour mark, Tara Andrews attempted to chip Koalas ‘keeper Katie Offer from over 30 metres out but her wonderful strike bounced away off the crossbar.
With 15 minutes to go, it was her strike partner Remy Siemsen’s turn to strike the frame of the goal.
A precise through ball from Libby Copus Brown fed the Sydney FC striker through on goal and her first-time header painfully rebounded off the inside of the right post.
Manly continued to push and push and so nearly found a dramatic late winner as Andrews saw a header saved spectacularly by Offer.
With three minutes to go, she came even closer after turning on the edge of the area and unleashing a strike that cannoned off the left post.
Manly United defender Cassidy Davis was upbeat after a solid defensive showing from her side.
“It was definitely a good defensive day for the girls,” she said.
“Obviously hitting the bar and creating that many chances it’s a bit frustrating to not come away with the result but it’s an improvement on last week.
“As long as we keep going forward then it’s all positive from here.”
Manly will hope luck is finally on their side when they travel to face Illawarra Stingrays next weekend.
