WOMEN’S PREVIEW: MACARTHUR RAMS V MANLY UNITED
It’s an exciting time for the Manly Women’s team as they look forward to their first competitive game for 2023.
The season starts with one of the longest road trips on the schedule: an away game against defending Champions Macarthur Rams.
This matchup brings back fond memories of the epic 2017 NPL NSW Women’s Grand Final, when a Remy Siemsen hat trick helped Manly to a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Rams.
There is no doubt that this will be a tough opening game for United. Macarthur boast Matildas experience in the form of Leena Khamis and Alex Huynh, as well as Japanese attacking midfielder Miku Sunaga.
Emily Minett was Manly’s top scorer last year and is back for another season. Minett was on the scoresheet the last time we played Macarthur (Round 19 of the 2022 campaign), but unfortunately her late goal wasn’t enough to earn a result, with the Rams winning 2-1.
Fleet-footed winger Tegan Biasi is another attacker who will be looking to build on strong performances in 2022, while at the other end of the field Nicole Stuart will play a key role against Macarthur’s attackers.
