WOMEN’S PREVIEW: FNSW INSTITUTE v MANLY UNITED

The Manly United Women’s team is looking for two wins in a row! On Sunday, they’ll travel west to play Football NSW Institute at Valentine Sports Park.

When we met Institute at Cromer Park in Round 4, goals from Emily Minett and Sienna Dale took us to a 2-0 win and provided a brilliant ending for Back To Manly Day. Victory by the same scoreline on Sunday will see us leapfrog Institute on the ladder, ensuring that there is plenty at stake for this game.

Institute were very impressive on the weekend, defeating high-flying Sydney Olympic 2-1 at Peter Moore Field. Manly will have to keep an eye on forwards Sienna Saveska and Daniella Naeimi, who both scored against Olympic. Saveska has played for Australia at youth level, as have teammates Mikayla Duong, Tahlia Franco and Jynaya dos Santos, so there is no doubt that this will be a tough encounter.

Despite going down to ten players, Manly were very impressive in their last outing and ended a winless run with a 2-0 triumph over Gladesville Ravens – the game capped off a perfect day as Manly won all four Girls Youth League games and both senior Women’s fixtures. In the 1st Grade game, Daisy Arrowsmith scored her first two Manly United goals and the sharpshooter will be key as Manly look to climb the table. Nicole Stuart was also a standout performer on the weekend and her energy could prove to be important against a young side.

Manly’s Reserve Grade side were 1-0 winners last weekend and that result was vital as it keeps them in fourth place. Ruby Egan-Brown’s early strike (her seventh goal of the season) proved to be enough for victory, while Maddison Zahra was another key contributor in that game. The previous Reserve Grade meeting between Manly and Institute ended in a 3-3 draw, so we could see fireworks when the two sides meet again.
