WOMEN’S PREVIEW: SYDNEY OLYMPIC V MANLY UNITED
Manly United are set for a crucial Women’s 1st Grade clash against Sydney Olympic on Sunday afternoon at Peter Moore Field. After last week’s close loss to NWS Spirit, the team are looking for a bounce-back performance as the season draws to a close.
In Sunday’s defeat at Cromer Park, Grace Arnold was one of the key performers and was named as our Player of the Match. The attacking duo of Daisy Arrowsmith and Kahli Johnson could play an important role this weekend as we look to break down the opposition defence, while the likes of Gema Simon and Ruby Jackson provide experience and know how to keep things calm at the business end of the campaign.
Sydney Olympic have a short turnaround for the weekend’s fixture after drawing 0-0 against Gladesville Ravens at Peter Moore Field on Thursday night. Young flyer Kiara De Domizio is their top scorer with nine goals for the season, while former Young Matilda Angelique Hristodoulou has scored six times in 2023. Olympic can also call upon Taylor Ray, who has plenty of A-League Women experience with Sydney FC and also earned a callup to a Matildas squad last year.
Manly’s Reserve Grade side are now unbeaten in their last five matches after a hard-earned 1-1 draw with Spirit on the weekend. Sienna Dale scored in that game and the Junior Matilda could be key to our chances of victory, while Caitlin Wallace earned praise from the coaches for her performance against Spirit. Three points will do wonders for the Reserve Grade team’s chances of finishing in the top half of the table – they’re currently in seventh with three games remaining.
