Manly United youth players earn school sports honours
It was great to see so many Manly United Youth League players involved in last month’s NSW CHS State Knockout Finals!
Jenny Hill, Ellen Whelan, Ruby Vernon, Vali Bradley, Zoe Edwards, Sienna Villacorta-Bateman and Sophie Muller were part of the NBSC Freshwater team that won the Girls competition for Comprehensive High Schools, defeating Merewether High School 3-2 on penalties after the match had finished in a 2-2 draw. There was more good news for Vernon – she was named Player of the Series and earned selection to the NSW All Schools team that will head to Canberra for this month’s School Sport Australia National Championships.
There was also plenty of Manly United representation in the Comprehensive High Schools Boys competition. Jasper Swadling, Seth Martin, Greg John, Harry Jung and Jared Muir helped NBSC Freshwater reach the final, however they would be defeated 1-0 by Caringbah High School. Jung was named Player of the Series.
Meanwhile, Samantha Edwards was part of the Hills Sports High School squad that played in the final of the Girls competition for Sports High Schools. Unfortunately, Hills SHS lost 1-0 to Westfields Sports High School.
Congratulations to all of our players on their school sports achievements.
