Football NSW Institute 1-6 Manly United
Manly United had a successful trip to western Sydney, earning a 6-1 win against Football NSW Institute.
Manly were fresh off breaking a losing streak and Institute will have entered this match cautious not to allow too much space for Manly’s attackers.
However, a mistake would lead to FNSW Institute conceding in the 15th minute, after a pass across goal was intercepted by Emily Minett, who made no mistake and buried the ball into the bottom corner. 1-0 to Manly.
A sublime Emily Bastow through ball in the 17th minute led to a brilliant opportunity for Nicole Stuart, who scored Manly’s second of the day by tucking the one-on-one chance low into the net.
Institute attacker Adelaide Wyrzynski would then earn a goal back for her side in the 22nd minute after dispossessing Manly goalkeeper Jodie Drever just outside of the 18 yard box, and scoring into an empty net.
Just past the half hour mark, Institute keeper Jasmine Black made two good saves in the space of two minutes, denying Phoebe Gilbane and Tegan Biasi. Manly maintained the pressure, with Minett firing over near the end of the first half.
Drever atoned for her earlier error in the opening seconds of the second stanza, leaping to tip Wyrzynski’s long range effort over the crossbar.
Manly then created breathing room with back-to-back goals over a two-minute stretch. The first of those arrived via an unlucky own goal from Zanthe Juric in the 52nd minute, and the second came after a lethal counter attack involving Alexia Karrys-Stahl and Stuart, with Minett burying the ball past Black in the 54th minute.
Karrys-Stahl was the creator of Manly’s fifth goal on 78 minutes, as Corinne Winkler rose highest to meet her pinpoint corner kick with a thumping header. The final goal also came from a Karrys-Stahl corner, with substitute Bonny Adams finishing from close range in the 90th minute.
