WOMEN’S PREVIEW: MANLY UNITED v EMERGING JETS
There’s cause for optimism as the Manly United Women’s team have had good results in recent weeks. On Sunday, they host Emerging Jets at Cromer Park in a game that will be a great chance to move closer to the mid-table spots.
Last weekend’s away trip to North Turramurra Recreation Area was productive, as a first half goal from Daisy Arrowsmith helped Manly earn a 1-1 draw against local rivals Northern Tigers. Paige Kingston-Hogg, Kahli Johnson and Caitlin Jarvie were instrumental in the buildup to that goal, and all those players have the talent to be game changers again on Sunday. Laura Hughes is another player to watch and the former Young Matilda has put in some assured midfield performances since joining Manly’s squad for the 2023 campaign.
Emerging Jets are coming off a tight 2-1 loss to Sydney Olympic, a game in which the young Jets were impressive and took the lead against a side that is currently flying high in fourth position. Brinley Gentle scored her 13th goal of the season on Sunday and she is definitely a player that needs to be tracked closely by Manly’s defence. Josie Allan and Claire Adams are also key attackers for the Jets, while at the back they can call on former Junior Matildas Chloe Walandouw and Zoe Karipidis.
The Manly Reserve Grade team will be seeking a return to winning ways on Sunday. Despite entering this round in tenth place, our Reserves are only three points off fifth place, so victory against the Jets should see them move up the table. The Reserves were also held to a draw (2-2) when they visited the Hunter Valley in Round 7.
